Greater equality of opportunities for women and an increased public awareness of attractive career opportunities in the logistics sector are the goals being pursued by the Bavarian State Ministry for Housing, Construction and Transport and the 300 members of the Bavaria Logistics Initiative in awarding the “Logistics is female” prize. Companies, which support the encouragement of women in the sector in a special way, were honoured for the third time. The Rhenus Group’s #SheWINS initiative was specially commended this year.
“We’re proud that our commitment to women is being appreciated, because we want to strengthen them in the best possible way to make use of job opportunities with a sense of self-assurance and contribute their skills,” says Dr Joana Bätz, the Chief Human Resources Officer and patron of #SheWINS, adding her comments. “The commendation is evidence that we’ve created something that has value added, which goes beyond an exchange platform and has a long-term effect.”
The global ERG, which was founded in February this year, consists of approximately 20 co-leads and 66 active members. It supports talented women as they pursue their career paths. #SheWINS is already active with local ERG teams at various company business sites in countries that include Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, India, Brazil and China. The initiative is global in its coverage and local in its effects. Each region has a co-lead who is responsible for coordinating #SheWINS locally. The local events are open to all interested female employees and range from social initiatives to round table discussions and even entertaining guest speakers.
Setting up the ERG known as #SheWINS is part of a diversified commitment to women. As a result, the Rhenus Group is gradually establishing an inclusive community in order to raise the awareness of women at the workplace and promote sexual equality – with a focus on three main goals:
- To offer women a safe place to share ideas and enhance their personal growth.
- To promote career success for women at every level.
- To work together to overcome various types of stigma and promote the equality of the sexes.
Social commitment on behalf of women
In addition to its internal incentive measures, the Rhenus Group is pressing ahead with this concept at a social level. For example, the team in India is supporting female rubbish collectors to provide them with a long-term livelihood. Thanks to donating kitchen appliances, the local Rhenus team has been able to empower women to set up their own small businesses and live in dignity and independence. The ERG in Brazil is also involved in helping flood victims in individual communities. Donations and organising drinking water, clothes and hygiene products here are already making an important social contribution.
“Our employees’ enormous personal initiative in the ERG is strengthening us in our resolve and we want to further enhance it,” says Dr Joana Bätz.
