In early 2017, Rhenus opened its second distribution centre (54,000 sq.m.) in Eindhoven. It also started building a new 60,000-sq.m. distribution centre along the A58 in Tilburg. Alphons van Erven, Senior Vice President of Rhenus Contract Logistics: "Rhenus strives to develop the most sustainable distribution centres possible - or BREEAM Outstanding facilities - to meet our objectives in the context of sustainable development. Factors considered include energy generation, choosing the right type of materials and ecological conditions. Besides relying on daylight, all our facilities are fitted with LED lighting. Rhenus also uses an information and communication platform to respond proactively to energy and maintenance needs."
KiesZon executed the solar power plant based on its own four pillars model: Development by own engineers, coordination of the financing, execution by own project managers and contractors and exploitation by Rhenus after completion. Stichting MOED, which coordinated an energy approach with Rhenus, took the initiative for this giant solar power plant, and arranged the SDE+ (in Dutch: Stimulering Duurzame Energieproductie, Encouraging Sustainable Energy Production) grant for this.
The Rhenus Contract Logistics distribution centres have obtained ISO 14001 certification among others, an internationally accepted standard which defines criteria for an environmental management system and which organisations can use to develop a suitable environmental policy, guaranteeing its execution.
