“By taking over ALS, we’re expanding our handling and warehouse capacity in the Duisburg Parallelhafen area very close to an existing Rhenus business site. We also believe that there is enormous development potential for solutions in the chemical industry at the site in Bottrop, which has excellent transport links at the heart of the Ruhr region,” says Norbert Nowak, a member of the inland ports management team within the Rhenus Group, explaining the reasons for the purchase.
Arnd Zappe, a former shareholder, who will continue to be managing director at ALS, comments, “We’re convinced that ALS within the network of the Rhenus Group can offer its customers even more extensive services. The takeover by Rhenus offers outstanding development opportunities for customers, the business sites and our employees, who can now continue their good work within the Rhenus Group.”
By integrating the two ALS business sites, the Rhenus Group is expanding its range of services in North Rhine-Westphalia – a further 31 warehouses, seven cranes and an open-air storage area for steel products measuring 11,000 square metres are just some of the additions. Hazardous goods warehouses, temperature-controlled storage areas and an open bonded warehouse are also available at the ALS business premises, which have been taken over. “We’ll be able to use our expanded network of sites in an even better way for our customers through the newly acquired facilities,” Norbert Nowak adds.
