Rhenus Port Logistics AG invests in sustainable transshipment terminal in Basel

Rhenus Port Logistics is sending a clear signal for the sustainable expansion of infrastructure in Basel and investing in a new tri-modal transshipment terminal at the Port of Switzerland in Kleinhüningen. Construction of Terminal 4 should be completed in December 2023. It will enable efficient, climate-friendly transshipment of goods. A photovoltaic system is being installed on the roof, which will generate around 2.4 million kWh of electricity every year, thereby covering the entire annual electricity consumption of Rhenus Port Logistics.

Construction of Terminal 4 will replace both Terminal 8 (Satram-Halle) and Terminal 7 on the North Dock. Terminal 4 will comprise five hall sections with a total area of around 7,300 m2 and will be equipped with the latest technology, including five cranes with carrying capacities of up to 32 tonnes, excavators, forklifts, a rail receiving pit, modern rail and road weighbridges, and WLAN and video systems. One hall selection will be completely isolated for the transshipment and storage of sensitive steel products.
