Rhenus optimises on site logistics thanks to autonomous forklifts

For several years, Rhenus has been the on site logistics provider at the ARLANXEO Emulsion Rubber France plant in Alsace, which produces synthetic rubber for manufacturing. As part of a renewed contract for on site logistics and transport for distribution throughout Europe, Rhenus has improved outbound production handling operations thanks to the addition of two autonomous forklifts.

Rhenus provides outbound logistics at three warehouses directly located on the SEVESO industrial site in La Wantzenau, a few kilometres north of Strasbourg. The on site logistics specialist assembles wooden crates for packaging, manages storage and distributes them throughout Europe. Handling these crates has already been made easier thanks to accumulation shuttle racks, where pallets are handled without human intervention. As part of the ongoing cooperation between ARLANXEO and Rhenus, recommendations were made to automate a number of arduous tasks and help reduce employees’ risk of exposure to hazardous chemicals.

“With Rhenus, we are aiming to improve working conditions while gradually modernising downstream logistics at our production site. The autonomous forklifts will facilitate greater productivity while also limiting health-related risks for our staff. Another two AGVs should be deployed soon, and we are currently considering other automation tools,” explained Olaf Derkx, Director of the ARLANXEO Emulsion Rubber France SAS plant.
