In Meerane, Rhenus mainly acts as a partner for automotive suppliers as well as for the retail sector and the growing online markets. In addition to classic warehouse logistics services, the logistics centre also provides value-added services such as supply and disposal for plants, picking, quality checks, return processing, sequencing, packaging and customs handling.
“Our existing capacities, however, are now almost fully utilized,” Heiko Nowak, a member of the Rhenus Warehousing Solutions management board, explains. “At the same time, we have identified a growing additional demand that we would like to serve. By expanding the Meerane site, we can now continue to develop alongside our customers.”
An additional 35,500 palette storage spaces will be available in the new warehouse from the middle of next year. The new building can also store up to 20,000 tonnes of water hazard class 3 hazardous materials. “This makes us unique in the region and of great interest to a wide range of industries and companies, be they online retailers, suppliers, producers, or start-up companies,” says Frank Frenzel, Manager of Rhenus Warehousing Solutions' subsidiary in Meerane.
Meerane is situated in the triangle between Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany as well as on the border between Saxony and Thuringia. Rhenus has been represented here since 2010, taking advantage of the proximity to the engineering and automotive supplies sectors.
