Manufacturers of German and other Central European products destined for the Norwegian market and Scandinavian goods bound for German consumers now have another alternative for transporting their cargo: on board the new scheduled service that operates between Cuxhaven and its northern neighbour. “The favourable location of the Cuxport terminal and its logistics expertise, particularly in the RoRo sector, played a major role in our choice of port,” says Sigurd Ur, Director for Sales & Marketing at Nor Lines, giving the grounds for the decision to use Cuxhaven.
Heavy goods, which make their way on board using so-called mafi trailers, and consumer goods products, which can be loaded using Nor Lines’ own 45 foot containers with a standard pallet width, are the main focus of handling activities for the new scheduled service at Cuxport. “With our multi-purpose approach, we’re ideally equipped to cope with a wide variety of types of cargo and goods entrusted to us by our customers,” says Michael de Reese, Managing Director of Cuxport.
The newly built freighters, “Kvitbjørn” and “Kvitnos”, which are both powered by LNG, will in future leave the German North Sea coast from the Cuxport terminal bound for Norway once a week. The many destinations for the newly established RoRo service range from the Oslo fjord in the south of the country to ports on the west coast like Bergen, Ålesund and Trondheim and even include Hammerfest located north of the Arctic Circle.
