With worldwide demand for timber continuing to grow, reliable wood transport is essential. As a trusted partner with extensive experience in forestry haulage, we ensure the safe delivery of your forestry products through our international network.
Rhenus delivers comprehensive solutions for the entire raw material wood supply chain. Our services include full timber logistics operations, warehousing and trading of sawmill by-products like wood shavings and wood chips, along with energy wood, roundwood directly from the forest and recycled timber from industrial sources. We provide customers in the paper, energy, soil and wood-based products industries with recycled timber, industrial wood, sawmill by-products and biomass for thermal applications.
A key area of our business is the trade and transport of logs for the sawmill industry. We are also heavily involved in timber purchasing and sales. For this purpose, we source trees directly from forest owners and state forestry companies before selling them for later processing. This approach enables us to deliver high volumes for your operations. In doing so, we can ensure reliable supply for our customers and help reduce the burden on sawmills in the sale of their by-products.

Our equipment and industry expertise allow us to manage every aspect of forest planning. From whole logs taken directly from the forest to wood chips, we transport your goods safely and reliably to their destination. Our services cover products including wood chips, sawdust, bark and cross-cut timber. Alongside sawmill by-products, we also transport biomass materials such as landscape maintenance materials including green waste wood chips, forest wood chips or screen overflow.
Being a certified waste management handler, we are permitted to handle the treatment, transportation, storage and trading of waste materials. Regular monitoring audits verify our compliance with the regulatory requirements relating to organization, equipment and activities. As a result, customers can depend on us for the reliable and professional disposal of waste wood.
Our customers can also source timber certified in accordance with the FSC standard FSC-STD-40-004. Also, most of our timber carries PEFC certification.
Across our different locations, we manage high volumes of forest products while maintaining consistently high quality.
Our solutions are tailored flexibly to your individual requirements and preferences, with trained employees ensuring the safe and optimal storage of your goods throughout the process.
Thanks to the group-wide network of Rhenus locations, we can store wood temporarily across various transport routes, including water, road and rail, as well as near your production facilities.

Our fleet for forestry transport consists of different types of company-owned trucks, including crane trucks, articulated trucks, roll-off tippers and walking floor trucks. In addition, we work closely with numerous partner companies.
Transportation methods are determined by the product type, the planned application and the transport distance. Specialized trucks are most often used for timber transportation and feature specific loading systems and bodies designed for logs or sawn timber. For oversized or extra-long logs, logging trucks are also deployed. Freight trains are regularly used to move high quantities of forestry products across long distances. Within global trade, cargo ships are a common transportation method for timber, especially from countries with major forestry operations.
