Timber is a multi-purpose resource with worldwide demand. As an experienced partner in timber logistics, we transport your forest products securely to their destination by leveraging our global network.
Rhenus offers logistics solutions covering every stage of the raw material timber supply chain. This includes complete timber logistics operations as well as the storage and timber trading of sawmill by-products such as shavings and chips, in addition to energy wood and roundwood sourced directly from the forest and recycled timber from industrial processes. We serve clients across the paper, wood-based products, energy and soil sectors with sawmill by-products, recycled and industrial timber and provide biomass for thermal applications.
We also place special emphasis on the trading and transportation of logs to supply the sawmill sector. A further key component of our activities is the purchasing and sale of timber. For this purpose, we source trees directly from state-owned forestry enterprises and forest owners and sell them for further processing. This allows us to provide you with greater volumes for your business. As a result, we can serve our customers dependably and relieve sawmills of the burden of marketing their by-products.

We possess the appropriate equipment and know-how for every aspect of forest logistics. Whether handling wood chips or full logs directly from the forest, our timber logistics services ensure your goods reach their destination securely and dependably. We move products including wood chips, sawdust, bark or cross-cut timber. Beyond sawmill by-products, we can also handle biomass products. These comprise, for instance, landscape maintenance residues like green waste chips, forest-derived chips and screening overflow.
As a licensed waste management facility, we are permitted to handle, transport, store and trade waste. Ongoing audit inspections confirm that we comply with the standards for organization, equipment and operations outlined in the regulations for waste management facilities. This assures that our clients can count on the reliable, professional and compliant disposal of their waste wood.
We also provide timber certified under the FSC standard FSC-STD-40-004. In addition, the majority of our timber carries PEFC-certified status.
We manage substantial volumes of consistently high-quality forest products from our different sites.
We adapt to your needs and preferences across all areas of forest logistics, with our skilled staff ensuring the best storage conditions for your goods.
Our Rhenus-wide network of locations allows us to provide intermediate storage for wood, whether transported by road, rail, water or stored close to your production facility.

Our forestry transport fleet encompasses our own trucks of various types, including articulated trucks, walking floor trucks, roll-off tippers and crane trucks. We also collaborate with many partners.
The transport method depends on the product type, its intended purpose and the distance to be covered. Timber is typically moved by specialized trucks, which are equipped with dedicated bodies and loading systems for logs or sawn timber. Logging trucks are also employed for especially large or long logs. Notably, large volumes of forestry products are often shipped over long distances by freight trains. In international trade, timber is often carried on cargo ships, particularly from countries with extensive forestry operations.
