Press Release
  • The announcement comes as part of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s state visit to Uzbekistan

  • The modernized facility is intended to create additional capacity, strengthen rail-based container transport, and support export-oriented industries in the Ferghana Valley.

  • The project supports the expansion of integrated logistics solutions along the Trans-Caspian transport route.

As part of the official delegation visit of German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Uzbekistan, the Rhenus Group, a global logistics service provider headquartered in Germany,  announces the modernisation of the existing logistics terminal in Andijan. The Federal President’s state visit highlights the growing economic cooperation between Germany and Uzbekistan. With the terminal project in Andijan, Rhenus is actively contributing to this development by strengthening modern logistics infrastructure in Uzbekistan and supporting stable trade routes along the Trans-Caspian Transport Route.

Three-Phase Expansion Boosts Road-Rail Transport

The modernisation project in Andijan marks an important milestone in the strategic cooperation between Rhenus and the Uzbek state railway “Uzbekiston Temir Yollari.” Over three phases, the existing site will be developed into a high-performance road-rail intermodal terminal and adapted to meet the demands of modern logistics.

The upgraded terminal is designed to create additional handling capacity, strengthen rail-based container transport, and enable new logistics services at the site, including warehouse logistics solutions. In addition, the terminal will in future offer a simultaneous storage capacity of around 2,000 TEU as well as rail infrastructure with a total track length of approximately 1,140 meters. Following completion of the first modernisation stage, the annual handling capacity is expected to reach approximately 200,000 TEU. The total modernisation volume amounts to around EUR 11 million. The first phase is scheduled to begin in July 2026 and will form the basis for the gradual expansion of the terminal in Andijan.

Modernisation Supports Industry and Trade in the Ferghana Valley

With this project, the Rhenus Group is not only strengthening Uzbekistan’s role as a transit region between Asia and Europe but also supporting economic development in the Ferghana Valley – one of the country’s most densely populated and industrially significant regions.

“By creating additional capacity and more reliable transport processes at the Andijan site, we are improving the conditions for one of Uzbekistan’s most important growth regions. Export-oriented industries in the Ferghana Valley, including the textile sector, will particularly benefit from this,” says Heinrich Kerstgens, delegation member and Director Board Projects at the Rhenus Group.

The Rhenus Group has been active in the freight forwarding and logistics sector in Uzbekistan since 1997. Since 2022, the company has been strategically expanding its presence in Central Asia by investing in its own integrated logistics sites. The project in Andijan is being developed in collaboration with the Uzbek Railway and its subsidiary AO “UzTemirYulKonteyner” through the joint venture “UzContargo Andijon,” which was established in January 2025. The collaboration builds on earlier agreements between Rhenus and the Uzbek Railways to jointly develop terminal infrastructure in Uzbekistan and increase rail-based container transport.

The Rhenus Group is one of the leading logistics specialists with global business operations and annual turnover amounting to EUR 8.2 billion. 39,000 employees work at 1,300 business sites in more than 70 countries and develop innovative solutions along the complete supply chain. Whether providing transport, warehousing, customs clearance or value-added services, the family-owned business pools its operations in various business units where the needs of customers are the major focus at all times.
