- From 2027, the Group will strengthen its established presence in the Padua area, expanding its capacity to serve national and international transport with an integrated hub for transport, warehousing and freight forwarding within Interporto Padova.
Rhenus is strengthening its presence in the Padua area, where it already operates outside Interporto Padova, and is taking a further step in the development of its logistics network in Italy. From the first quarter of 2027, the Group will bring together its national and international transport, freight forwarding and warehousing activities in a single hub within Interporto Padova. The 10,000-square-metre platform is designed to connect flows, services and expertise more directly across the supply chain.
The project is being presented at Green Logistics Expo, the International Exhibition for Sustainable Logistics organised in Padua, of which Interporto Padova is one of the main promoters.
The new hub is designed to connect activities that Rhenus already carries out in the Padua area and to expand its operational capacity for national and international transport. The same site will bring together road transport, air and ocean freight forwarding, warehousing and specialised services, including Special Delivery and Transport Related Warehousing (TRW), integrating warehouse management and transport flows in a single platform. The facility will enable more continuous coordination between transport, warehousing and value-added services, strengthening Padua’s role as a strategic node in the Rhenus network in north-eastern Italy.
The platform will include 1,000 square metres of office space across several levels, 3,500 square metres dedicated to road transport activities, 3,000 square metres for Transport Related Warehousing, equivalent to approximately 3,000 pallet spaces, 2,000 square metres for Special Delivery and 500 square metres for ADR activities. The site will also include more than 30 loading bays, two areas for charging lithium forklifts and charging towers for batteries.
Interporto Padova’s location along the Mediterranean and Baltic-Adriatic European corridors provides access to the A4 and A13 motorways and fast connections with Venice and Verona airports. For Rhenus, the site will therefore become a connection point between the Italian market, European traffic flows and international services.
The new hub will consolidate two warehouses already operating in the Padua area into a single facility: the Corso Spagna warehouse, with 2,008 square metres of covered space in addition to offices, and the Via Settima Strada warehouse, with 2,910 square metres of covered space in addition to offices. Their proximity to the current sites, approximately two and five kilometres from the new facility respectively, will support a gradual transfer of operations and operational continuity. With a total surface area of 10,000 square metres, the new platform will represent a 100% increase in covered warehouse space compared with the current footprint of around 5,000 square metres, strengthening Rhenus’ capacity to serve national and international transport activities integrated with warehouse management.
The transfer will take place progressively to ensure operational continuity, with the start planned for the first quarter of 2027.
“Padua is a strategic location for Rhenus in Italy. With this hub, we are building on an established presence in the area and bringing different areas of expertise from the Rhenus Group under one roof: Overland and Special Delivery, Air & Ocean and Transport Related Warehousing (TRW). This step strengthens our national and international network and enables us to offer customers a more integrated supply chain management approach, from transport and warehousing to international freight forwarding,” says Eng. Guglielmo Davide Tassone, Managing Director of Rhenus Overland Italy.
“The expansion of Rhenus’ activities strengthens an existing collaboration and confirms Interporto Padova’s ability to support the growth of international logistics operators. The integration of several Rhenus services enhances our infrastructure and contributes to the competitiveness of the local logistics and production system,” says Paolo Pandolfo, Deputy General Manager of Interporto Padova Spa.
Interporto Padova’s rail and road connections, together with Rhenus’ global network, will enable the new hub to serve the Italian and European markets with integrated logistics solutions.
The project is part of a development path that Rhenus has pursued in Italy over the past ten years: integrating the Group’s expertise, services and business units to offer increasingly coordinated supply chain solutions. In Padua, this strategy takes shape in a single hub that brings together transport, warehousing and international freight forwarding under one roof, strengthening the development model that has guided Rhenus’ growth in the country.
