Rhenus Air & Ocean strengthens its activities in northern Spain with the acquisition of Cemasa

Rhenus Air & Ocean has reached an agreement to acquire Cemasa, a Bilbao-based liner shipping agency offering integrated logistics solutions. This acquisition is a significant step forward in the group's expansion on the Iberian Peninsula, particularly in northern Spain, and reaffirms its commitment to continuously improving its logistics services.

As a result of this agreement, Cemasa (Consignaciones Europeas Marítimas SA) will be integrated into the structure of Rhenus Air & Ocean. Founded in Bilbao in 1998 as a liner agency, the company has developed and adapted its services to the needs of the market. Cemasa currently offers its customers a complete portfolio of services ranging from chartering, shipping, energy projects and containers to groupage and customs clearance. The company also has a strong presence in Latin America, thanks to strategic partnerships with freight forwarders and shipowners it represents in Spain.

The acquisition is part of the Rhenus Group's strategic growth plan to further increase its market share and expand its coverage and high-value-added services for its customers.

Francisco Ocón, Managing Director of Rhenus Air & Ocean Spain, says: "The integration of Cemasa into our organisation is an important strategic step to strengthen our presence in the Spanish market and especially in the Basque Country, one of the most industrialised regions of the country. We are excited about the opportunities this merger will bring to both our team and our customers."

For his part, Javier Villasante, CEO of Cemasa, stresses that "working hand in hand with an international group of the size of Rhenus will strengthen our capabilities and allow us to offer an even more complete and efficient service."
