The electric truck picks up shipments at Logport in Duisburg and transports the general cargo to Venlo. The vehicle has a range of approximately 500 km, enabling it to cover longer distances without any problems. Our long-standing partner, Duisburger Logistik Service GmbH (DLS), uses Rhenus' new charging hub in Venlo to charge the 40-ton truck. The electric truck can be used for all general cargo, FTL, and LTL shipments.
Electric fleet for last-mile deliveries
Numerous electric vehicles are also already in use in the Rhenus Home Delivery division. Within Germany, they are mainly used for direct delivery to end customers, e.g., for furniture or household appliances. This reduces emissions, especially on the last mile – an area that is particularly relevant for overall emissions in transport.
Sustainability and future prospects
“For us as a logistics service provider, the daily use of electric trucks in road freight transport is an important milestone, as it allows us to gain important experience in terms of performance, charging times, and route planning,” reports Florian Fiedler, Operations Manager at the Duisburg site and responsible for the introduction of the electric truck. Rhenus is pursuing the goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2045. Expanding the electric truck fleet is an important contribution to this goal, even if the CO₂ savings are currently difficult to calculate precisely.
