Rhenus Gottardo Roffoni SA is a historic freight forwarding company based in Chiasso, active in the industry since 1872, the year the construction of Gotthard Railway began.
In 1934, it adopted the name Gottardo Ruffoni SA following its merger with the company "Trasporti Internazionali Gottardo."
In 2004, Gottardo Ruffoni became part of the IHG group, which was acquired by Rhenus Logistics two years later.
Since 2009, Rhenus Gottardo Ruffoni SA has been operating from its headquarters in Balerna, a 5,500 m² facility housing offices and warehouses, with a staff of about 30 people.
Historically, we have specialized in sectors such as fruits and vegetables, foodstuffs (with particular focus on cured meats and cheeses), flowers, and live animals.
Our headquarters, located just a few kilometers from the border, ensures active trade with Italy, both in imports and exports.

With over 150 years of experience of international road freight solutions, we select the most suitable vehicle for each shipment: articulated lorries, trucks with trailers, dedicated vans, special or ADR vehicles. Managing traffic, delays, and unforeseen events is our daily challenge.
In addition to general cargo, we are specialized on foodstuffs, fresh, and frozen goods.
The distribution is ensured with daily shuttles and deliveries to destination within 24/48 hours. We can manage both fresh and ambient temperature goods thanks to our warehouses in Balerna and in Italy.
As part of our commitment to continuous quality improvement, we have been recognized as Authorized Economic Operators (AEO) since December 2015. Obtaining this certification is the result of constant effort and the dedication that distinguishes us.
Our company has been certified under the UNI EN ISO 9001 standard since 1998. In 2016, the quality management system was updated to UNI EN ISO 9001:2015 for the activities of “providing international freight forwarding services, organizing transport, logistics services, and customs operations.” The ISO certification is an important guarantee of quality for our clients. On March 26, 2012, our company achieved another milestone in food safety: the transportation and storage of ambient and refrigerated food products comply with the UNI EN ISO 22000:2005 standard, currently updated to version 22000:2018.
