frequently asked Questions

Bulk transportation is the transportation of materials in loose, free-flowing, liquid, packaged or compressed form. These materials are transported directly in a vehicle, usually a truck, train or ship, and can be easily dumped or unloaded as required. Bulk materials are often required in large quantities in bulk and are commonly used in the construction, agriculture, mining, waste management and other industries.

Bulk cargo transports can be carried out in various ways, including:

  • Trucks: Trucks are typically used for the road and highway transport of bulk cargo, often in the form of trucks.
  • Trains: Freight trains can transport large quantities of bulk cargo materials over long distances.
  • Ships: In maritime shipping, bulk cargo materials are transported in specialized cargo ships equipped for loading and unloading at port terminals.

The choice of transportation method depends on various factors, including the quantity of material to be transported, distance, the availability of transportation infrastructure, and economic considerations.

Examples of bulk cargo materials transported in silo or tipper transports include:

  • Rock and sand: These materials are often used for construction purposes, such as road construction, concrete production, and building construction.
  • Grain and animal feed: In agriculture, grains and animal feed are frequently transported in loose form for storage or processing.
  • Coal and ore: In the mining industry, coal, ore, and other raw materials are transported in large quantities as bulk cargo.
  • Gravel and crushed stone: These materials are commonly used in the construction industry, especially for making concrete and asphalt.

Construction materials: This includes materials like cement, limestone, and gypsum needed in the construction industry.

To ensure cost-effectiveness, empty trips (i.e., kilometers driven without a load) are avoided wherever possible. Vehicles with unique functions are loaded in one direction and ideally pick up something on the way back. This can involve combining items like coils, construction materials, and animal byproducts. For example, if animal byproducts such as bones are transported in a refrigerated manner, construction materials can also be carried. In this way, we manage to transport goods together that wouldn't normally be combined. This reduces CO2 emissions, and we can offer you, as our customers, better prices.
