Port services – Customized solutions for optimized port transport

Smooth logistics are essential for the efficient transport of goods on Europe’s waterways. Services such as transshipment, pre-carriage, on-carriage, port shipment, port equipment and customs clearance are just some of the port services that contribute to this.

Cargo handling for onward transportation

From ship to road or rail, the ports along the coast and on Europe’s waterways serve as hubs for multimodal transshipment. The infrastructure and superstructure of our marine and inland port terminals ensure smooth supply chain management. Cranes and conveyor systems enable fast and careful handling of goods for port logistics. Whatever the mode of transport, multimodal handling ensures a sensible combination of transport modes to provide you with an optimal solution.

Your goods are scanned during transshipment – both on arrival and departure. Any irregularities or damage are recorded using photo documentation, providing clear proof of damage. Thanks to EDI interfaces, data is exchanged electronically and fully automatically, keeping you informed at all times with impeccable data quality and high efficiency. When loading for road transport, the truck is weighed automatically on calibrated and verified scales. This not only saves you time during handling, but the fast, error-free registration of license plates also supports the automatic generation of the weighing slip.

Secure and cost-effective storage options

Port services cover a wide range of storage and goods handling solutions. Both inland and seaport locations offer you the opportunity to store your goods in both open and covered terminal areas for all bulk and general cargo. This approach is cost-effective and efficient – this enables immediate onward port transport by various modes of transport. To ensure the highest level of protection for your goods in open storage, our warehouses comply with the requirements of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code).

Indoor warehouses are particularly suitable for sensitive, high-value or dangerous goods, as they provide protection from external influences. In addition to storage, Rhenus offers other services in indoor warehouses. These include reusable services such as palletizing, packaging, order picking and sorting. Selected warehouses also provide temperature monitoring and humidity control, enabling temperature-controlled storage.
