Interview with Nina van der Biezen –
Assistant to the Branch Manager

For almost two years, Nina has enriched our dynamic team – as an Assistant to the Branch Manager, she provides reliable support for the work of the management level. In the interview, she tells us what role quality KPIs play in her job and what experience she has already been able to gain beyond her current location.

What motivated Nina to apply for a job at Rhenus?

After completing my Master’s degree with a focus on International Logistic & Supply Chain Management, I was looking for an attractive opportunity to start my career, preferably with an international focus. Rhenus quickly suggested itself as the ideal company. I immediately found an interesting job advertisement and through a direct contact to the HR management, the application process went smoothly. I found the application process transparent and open. An online assessment was followed by a personal meeting and a trial working day. Afterwards, I was directly offered a contract. I started as an Assistant to the Management in March 2019, and in the meantime I've already been around quite a bit in the Rhenus world. I have a good feeling about the company and my tasks all in all and, looking back, I am really happy to have joined Rhenus.

Which steps has Nina already taken with us?

After my onboarding, which took me to the Rhenus locations in Düsseldorf, Hoppegarten and Hanover, I was involved in various projects at Rhenus High Tech and Rhenus Home Delivery, both in Germany and abroad. This meant that I was already able to get to know two large business units of the Rhenus Group, gain initial experience, contribute my own ideas and build up my network. I find it very interesting that I have been able to work in both the “Business to Business” (B2B) and “Business to Consumer” (B2C) sectors. I am currently working at Rhenus Home Delivery in Düsseldorf as an Assistant to the Branch Manager and feel very comfortable at this location.

What responsibilities define Nina’s working day?

In day-to-day business, I take on various tasks to support the Branch Manager or Management. I am currently working on optimisations for the warehouse area. In addition, I conduct quality meetings with various clients together with the Branch Manager. Furthermore, my focus is on ensuring that the quality KPIs of the Düsseldorf branch remain at a constant level and are further improved. This is essential in order to achieve the commercial and economic goals of the branch. Rhenus offers me very good opportunities to work responsibly and independently – and I can also always continue to develop personally.

Regarding opportunities in logistics – what does Rhenus have to offer?

Rhenus allows me to work closely with Branch Management and use my personal strengths in a focused way. I am supported in taking on my own tasks and projects and can then also implement them. I am currently taking a Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) trainer’s certificate so that I will soon be able to supervise trainees. I am very much looking forward to this as I hope to be able to develop further professionally through contact with junior colleagues. In addition, this way I can open up new opportunities for Rhenus as an employer and qualify for our internal junior management programmes.

What is special about Nina’s job?

In the different projects, I have many opportunities to make an important contribution as a “young professional” in a fast-moving, complex business environment. I particularly appreciate that I learn something new every day, both professionally and personally. I have already been able to work with clients in different countries, experience the world of medical transport, meet people from a wide range of backgrounds and use my foreign language skills. The exciting and diverse environment at Rhenus – that’s what makes the job as an Assistant so special.
