Job Description
What you can expect
- Coordinate end-to-end Ocean Export shipments, including carrier bookings, shipping instructions, CERS submissions, and preparation of Master and House Bills of Lading (MBL/HBL).
- Manage Ocean Import shipments, including E-Manifest preparation, destination coordination, and shipment follow-up.
- Communicate with customers, overseas agents, carriers, and service providers to ensure the timely movement of freight and provide regular shipment updates.
- Prepare and distribute pre-alerts, status reports, shipping documentation, and Proofs of Delivery (PODs).
- Arrange cargo pickups and coordinate transportation providers as required.
- Monitor shipment progress, resolve operational issues, and ensure all files are completed accurately and closed in a timely manner.
- Negotiate rates with carriers and logistics providers and assist with customer quotations and pricing requests.
- Issue invoices, reconcile shipment costs, manage pending charges, and support accounts payable processes.
- Maintain accurate shipment records and ensure compliance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Provide exceptional customer service while supporting the day-to-day operations of the freight forwarding department.
What you bring
- Minimum 2 years of experience within the Canadian freight forwarding industry.
- Strong knowledge of Ocean Export operations, including bookings, CERS filings, shipping instructions, and bill of lading documentation.
- Working knowledge of Ocean Import operations, including E-Manifest preparation and destination coordination.
- Experience handling both ocean exports and imports within a non-asset-based logistics environment.
- Exposure to Air Freight operations is considered an asset.
- Experience coordinating international shipments and communicating with overseas agents and carriers.
- Understanding of freight forwarding documentation, customs requirements, and transportation processes.
- Experience preparing quotations and negotiating carrier rates is considered a strong asset.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Proficiency with freight forwarding systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiarity with international trade documentation, carrier portals, and Canadian customs requirements.
