Rhenus Offshore Logistics expands its network of business sites on its fifth anniversary

Rhenus Offshore Logistics celebrated five years in business in Hamburg on 26 September. The specialist for supplying offshore platforms and disposing of their waste has gradually expanded its business sites during its anniversary year and has now tapped into the Asia-Pacific region within its international network. The anniversary celebrations took place in the presence of 120 guests on board the CAP SAN DIEGO, the largest seaworthy museum cargo vessel in the world.

Ever since it was founded in Bremen in the summer of 2014, Rhenus Offshore Logistics has set up business operations in Cuxhaven, Emden, Sassnitz, Hamburg, Rotterdam as well as Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth in the United Kingdom. They were followed by a new branch in the Asia-Pacific region in the spring of 2019 – and it creates a base to supply local wind parks there.

Rhenus Offshore Logistics handles the complete spectrum of logistics solutions for offshore wind parks and platforms that are used to collect and transmit electricity. They include services like platform cleaning, customs clearance, handling, chartering, maritime coordination, storage, container supply and management. The company saves costs and time by means of so-called “shared runs” during supply trips – i.e. its vessels head for several platforms and operating sites during a single journey.

“This enables us to make full use of the vessels that we’ve chartered for the trips and prevent empty runs,” says Thore Schreiber, Head of Business Development at Rhenus Offshore Logistics, explaining the company system. “85 percent of more than 100 supply trips in 2019 have been ‘shared runs’ and this has helped us achieve cost savings of as much as 30 percent.”

“We want to continue digitalising our operational processes as a future challenge in order to be prepared to meet the requirements in this sector during the next few years,” Björn Wittek, Managing Director of Rhenus Offshore Logistics, explains.
