Press Release

Rhenus Italy and CMA CGM together for the environment

The Air & Ocean division of the logistics company, together with CMA CGM and in partnership with PUR Projet, will participate in two projects in China and Honduras that will offset the environmental impact of a total of 177 tons of CO2 and contribute to the development of sustainable agriculture in local communities.

The Air & Ocean division of Rhenus Italy, leader in integrated logistics, and CMA CGM - in partnership with PUR Projet, a non-profit organisation engaged in the fight against climate change and deforestation in 40 countries - will be involved in two projects aimed at offsetting the environmental impact and supporting the sustainable economic development of local communities.

These projects are part of the "Positive Offset" certification issued by PUR Projet and promoted by CMA CGM, thanks to which Rhenus Italy will receive Gold Standard carbon credits that will allow the company to offset its environmental impact.

Thanks to the contribution of the Air & Ocean division of Rhenus Italy, a total of 177 tons of carbon will be offset within the "Yuqing and Wenchang Household Biogas project" in South West China. The project, managed by the NGO Climate Care, involves supporting farmers in the construction and maintenance of a household biogas digester that will allow families to reduce their fuel bills by 40 percent, while improving hygiene conditions and significantly reducing emissions.

The second project will allow the planting of new trees in Honduras, promoting reforestation and agroforestry in the Olancho region and supporting livestock farmers converting to organic cocoa farming in a sustainable agriculture model.

"We are proud to announce our contribution to two important projects aimed at promoting an environment-friendly development model,” said Emanuele Orso, General Manager of the Air & Ocean division of Rhenus Italia. "Thanks to the collaboration with CMA CGM, in partnership with PUR Projet, we will have the opportunity to contribute effectively to the promotion of an eco-conscious economy and the growth of local communities".
