VR Award presented to Rhenus, HAVI and Meyer for their commitment to climate protection

Rhenus Transport, HAVI and Meyer Logistik have received a VR Award from the transport and logistics magazine, VerkehrsRundschau, for their joint dedication to climate protection. Using the project entitled “Climate protection cannot be subject to any competition”, the logistics specialists are seeking to establish climate-neutral road transport services and represent the interests of their sector in the mobility revolution.

The logistics companies, Rhenus Transport, HAVI and Meyer Logistik, are united in seeking a mobility revolution that also includes the interests of the users of alternative drive concepts. Although they are naturally rivals in business terms, they have joined forces in a joint, flexible initiative to combat climate change – and have now won the VR Award from the VerkehrsRundschau magazine in the climate protection category.

“The mobility revolution cannot be achieved by individuals acting single-handedly. On the contrary: all those involved must become involved in a process of sharing ideas with each other so that the process of change is successful,“ says Sascha Hähnke, the Managing Director of Rhenus Transport, explaining the background. The managers of the logistics companies, which are open to new technologies, have already been exchanging ideas about alternative drive concepts for about ten years. “Especially when using new, less proven technologies, it is more than helpful to be able to draw on the experience of partners from other companies,” says Torsten Oldhues, the Managing Director Operations HAVI. They have already been using alternative drive systems such as gas- and hydrogen-powered trucks or completely electric and hybrid vehicles for a long time. “Thanks to using ecological fuel concepts, we’re able to save more than 1,000 tonnes of CO2 every year,” says Matthias Strehl, the Managing Director of Meyer Logistik. “Therefore, we are watching very closely the technical developments on the market in order to perspectively increase this number when it comes to applying." The logistics specialists are planning to purchase more vehicles with climate-friendly drive systems in future.

The three logistics specialists are using their extensive expertise in concepts for climate-friendly commercial vehicles to continually exchange ideas with decision-makers in the world of politics, manufacturers and logistics firms. By adopting this pioneer role, they are sensitising them to the opportunities offered by the far-reaching subject area of “alternative drive systems”. The weekly VerkehrsRundschau magazine, which is based in Munich, has now acknowledged the initiative. The prize-winners received their award at the 21st VerkehrsRundschau gala in Munich last Thursday.
