Rhenus attracts Merisant to its agri-food hub

Since the start of 2020, Merisant, the global leader in table-top sweeteners, has entrusted Rhenus with its logistics and management of downstream transport in France. Rhenus took on this new activity at its agri-food hub in Saint-Quentin-Fallavier. Attracted by the technological tools Rhenus offers, including its 'in-house' pre-palletising algorithm, Merisant decided to change both provider and region for its national warehouse.

Little by little, Rhenus is asserting its positioning as a logistician in the agri-food sector for dry products destined for mass distribution and specialised retail networks. Rhenus focuses these activities on its Nord-Isère cluster in Saint-Quentin-Fallavier, near Lyon. Thus, with a view to pooling, one multi-client warehouse is already entirely dedicated to clients in the agri-food sector. Pooling covers both human resources and skills specific to co-packing, for example, as well as IT tools for managing warehousing and transport. In the long term, the transport between the warehouse and distributor platforms can be organised jointly for all the agri-food hub's clients.

These are all strengths that attracted Merisant and convinced it to entrust Rhenus with the warehousing and downstream transport of all its product ranges distributed in France. The Satellite® tool, a control tower developed by Rhenus, provides Merisant with real-time information on the status of its stocks, orders in preparation and outstanding amounts before orders, and enables it to monitor downstream transport to its distributor customers.

"The pre-palletisation algorithm developed by the Rhenus design office in France formed part of the selection criteria during the call for tenders. This innovative tool, which supports the WMS, aims to optimise pallet preparation by reducing the number of floor pallets produced. We are working with the Rhenus teams to improve our downstream distribution costs based on this tool," explains Guillaume Gallais, Logistics Director at Merisant.
